Kodachadri

Kodachadri is a mountain peak in western ghats.Surrounded by the dense forest it makes a perfect place for trekkers. Mountain peak can be reached by trekking for 12 kms through the dense forest. To and fro journey to the  peak is around 22 kms by walk. One can also take jeeps if they don want to trek(which is not recommended as the journey to the peak is wonderful).Even if you take a jeep its necessary for you to walk for 2 kms  to reach the peak. At the top of the mountain there is a temple dedicated to Shankracharya. It is also the best place to witness sunset. You can also get to see 2 falls on the way to the peak if you choose to trek and the view of the falls is magnificent.
Its better to trek for 2 days that is starting in the afternoon and camping on top of the hill that night  and then returning back next day.So the journey would not be tiresome.Camping can be done near the tourist bunglow that is close to the peak You can also choose to trek one side and hire a jeep to get down. There are two separate routes for climbing the peak and to get down.

How to reach?

Kodachadri is situated in Shimoga district. You can reach Kollur by bus and from there , lots of jeeps are available that drops you to the starting point for trekking.Starting point is at the nittur village.

Note

> Make sure you climb down the hill during the daylight so that you can find buses or any trucks thats plying to kollur. Else there is no other way to reach kollur. If you take a driver for a private vehicle make sure you tell him to wait for you near the exit of the hill point where you climb down(starting point and exit points are different) and reach the main road.
There are 3 different exit points to reach the main road. Main road is the road between Kollur and Kodachadri starting point. One that is at the bottom most is the best ,that is the first exit point that you get on the right side while you are travelling from Kollur to Kodachadri.
>If you want to exit the hills and reach main road you will have to take a different route from the top of the hills.
>And on the way down your trek make sure you take left turn wherever the road divides so that surely you would reach the exit point (shown in the photo below).

> Make sure you do not climb during the day time in summer as it is extremely hot and you may drain out by the time you reach the peak.
